Being Dufay

"Being Dufay" is born from an apparently irreconcilable juxtaposition: that between the precious Flemish vocals of Guillaume Dufay (exponent of the "Bourgogne school" and a XVth century composer) and the infinite creative possibilities of electronica.
Eager to explore its limits, Ambrose Field (specialised in the creation of concrete music, recodifying natural springs) decided to incorporate songs and sections from the Flemish maestro into sublime artificial landscapes, creating an opera dense with significance and gravid with spirituality.
The electronic music of Being Dufay is created live during the performance from the existing musical source.
Ambrose has complete freedom in the articulation of phrases and verses, thanks to an interactive and personalised technology. John can thus interpret and articulate the pieces freely, without time restrictions.
The live performance retains the delicate complexity of the album, though different in each location. The live-system is created using Pure Data, a freeware programming language by Miller Puckette.
