The creations of Carsten Nicolai, in art Alva Noto, are microscopic visions of our world and its compositions. In his work Alva Noto questions the world’s materialism, its formation and its movement, the time that influences a transformation process, its limits and the use of creative resources.
Alva Noto explains the mechanisms and the materialisms of nature showing us sounds and making us listen to objects: the sounds are studied, measured and then visualized, objects are put forward again as important elements of the soundscape we live in- modems, telephones, faxes are sampled and inserted editing the work mathematically; the project with Ryoji Ikeda "Cyclo" explores error structures and looping through the integration of audio-visual elements. Alva Noto’s scenery therefore is reinvented to specific measures and answers the question that has anguished us for decades: Have we seen and heard everything? Absolutely not, or at least not the way we think.
