ALICE DUFAY

Alice Dufay is an illustrator. She studied at “Ecole de beaux arts”, Art school in Caen (France). When she finished her studies she taught fine art for 6 years.
At the same time, she worked at home, making drawings, collage, textile creations for different people and supports (flyers, vinyl, book cover). Last year, she wrote and draw her first comic book “Le temps s’écoule à la vitesse d’un escargot“. The second one is meant to be ready in 2010. Nowaday, she work in an art gallery called Oh! with 4 other illustrators and designers.
She is the kind of artist who is into everything. She really enjoy to work with different materials and media. When she finished Art school, she thought she wanted to be a cartoon movie maker. Actually, she didn’t really decide to be an illustrator. She think it went that way because of the proposition she had and people she met.
Her biggest influences are daily life, cinema and music. She enjoys the colours and freshness of Basquiat and Cody Hudson’s work, she also like Martin Arnold’s videos and his vision of the classic American cinema of the 50’s, Julien Pacaud’s collage or Wolfgang Laib’s minimalism.
Alice made a Peter Digital Orchestra doll with his MPC 2000. She made the covers for Soulance, a partnership between the talented producer Fulgeance and DJ Soulist of What The Funk. She made the artwork for Fulgeance’s Smartbanging EP and she also worked, this time with collage, on the 1000Name’s EP on Eklektik Records.

Beats & Faces is a common project with her boyfriend Pierre (aka Fulgeance). They both wanted to put forward the new hip hop scene, new producers, new art.
She draw portraits of the beatmakers, designers , DJs, VJs that they like. Their first exhibition had taken place in Nice (French Riviera) and the second one in Kanazawa (Japan).
Music is a part of her daily life, and even if she never had opportunity to learn music when she was a little girl, she's always been into it anyway. She loves to draw for musicians and she trys to transcribe their universe. She really needs to listen to music while she works, it inspires her and it really helps her to be creative. And, when it’s possible, she even acts as a DJ … or more as a selector!
